Naev is a 2D space shooting and trading game primary developed by Edgar "Bobbens" Simo.[1] It requires SDL, OpenGL, and OpenAL. The latest version of the game is 0.5.0, which was released on June 3th, 2011.[2] The source code is licensed under the GPLv3.[3] The project was inspired by the proprietary game Escape Velocity.
[edit] Gameplay
In Naev, missions are primarily accessed through planets or stations. At the beginning of the game, rush deliveries and freight missions are the only missions available on a regular basis. Special missions allow you to achieve certain rewards and access to new regular missions such as patrols.
For transportation between solar systems, hyperspace is available. To make travelling between systems easier, autopilot is available.
Ships can be customized at the cost of some kind of trade-off. Each ship has three types of slots in varying numbers. There are high, medium, and low slots. They're also limited by the CPU resource of the ship. Generally, the more sophisticated an item is, the more CPU it will take up.
